Why I Built This
“When my spiritual director started talking about retirement, I went to a nearby training center to ask who they'd recommend. They handed me a 30-page document — just names, email addresses, and phone numbers — and told me to start there. It overwhelmed me. And it felt completely counter to the kind of relationship I was looking for. Spiritual direction is about trust, presence, and being known. The search for a director should reflect that.”
What Is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is a sacred relationship in which a trained guide accompanies you as you pay attention to God's movement in your life. A spiritual director doesn't fix, diagnose, or advise. They listen. They ask questions that open rather than close. They hold space for the Holy Spirit — the true director of every soul.
Spiritual direction is not therapy. It is not coaching. It is not religious counseling. It is something older and rarer: a sacred companionship in which you are helped to hear what you might otherwise miss.

“The whole purpose of spiritual direction is to penetrate beneath the surface of a person's life and bring out one's inner spiritual freedom, one's inmost truth.”
— Thomas Merton, Spiritual Direction and Meditation (1960)

Provided verifiable information about their training, supervision, and background
“The human soul doesn't want to be advised or fixed or saved. It simply wants to be witnessed — to be seen, heard and companioned exactly as it is.”
— Parker Palmer, The Gift of Presence (On Being)
